Our team of Content Editors tests each app in our database for MacUpdate Desktop compatibility. There’s a variety of reasons that Some apps cannot be installed with MacUpdate Desktop. Here’s a selection of app cases that result in the app being marked as Not Compatible:
- GUI-less apps (CLI or browser-based)
- Demos (indie demo, to prevent overwrite of licensed version)
- Drivers (printers, graphics cards, etc.)
- Java .jar files
- Launchers, or downloads that are downloaders, instead of the apps themselves
- Apps with no version strings
- Plug-ins (audio plug-ins, video plug-ins, Xojo, FileMaker)
- Browser extensions
- Mail bundle
- Runtimes (Filemaker, Unity, etc.)
- Suites, or collections of apps which may or may not match the published version number or which may have a variety of version numbers
- Version mismatches where internal app version info doesn’t match published version number
- PPC-only apps
